Fred Dibnah - steeplejack, steam enthusiast, engineer and much loved television presenter
Fred Dibnah – Steeplejack, steam enthusiast, engineer and much loved television presenter. Fred Dibnah was many things to many people but you’d be hard pushed to find anyone who didn’t admire his commitment and unrelenting passion for preserving Britain’s industrial heritage. In fact it was this dedication to heritage and his services to broadcasting – through both our critically acclaimed documentaries and the earlier films by Don Howarth that earned Fred his MBE in 2004.
The View from the North is the Leeds based, Production Company who spent 8 years making the hugely popular Fred Dibnah programmes for the BBC. Now for the first time we’re bringing together all of the programmes that we made for the BBC, plus many more fantastic collectors editions, collections and new exclusive titles that will only be available from ‘The View from the North Productions’.
All the DVDs produced by us are the real deal, the official products with Fred working for us as a presenter with a professional crew.
After finishing making the last BBC Fred series in 2005 (Fred Dibnah’s World of Steam, Steel and Stone), we’ve been concentrating on editing all the rest of the footage - the bits that Fred really wanted showing. He could never really understand the programme making process and why so little made it to the final cut. Now along with the programmes as seen on TV you can also see some fantastic new films.
It’s Fred at his best – really getting involved and chatting away to his fellow engineers and enthusiasts.
